Eclipse Lite Languages

As part of the Eclipse University Outreach initiative, I have developed plug-ins that allow students to evaluate Scheme and Prolog in Eclipse. A beta version of the Scheme plug-ins is now available. After resolving some licensing issues, the Prolog beta version should be available in June.  You can view the user guides here for both to get a feel for what they can do. You can also download the Scheme plug-ins from the same location. Next up will be a lite version for Java.

Oh, how I wish this would have been available for the time you taught us 3007 :)

I think this is an excellent idea. Do you have a list of features that you think it should have? (or maybe working the other way, ones to be removed?). There was of course the GILD work but it required changes to existing source so constant work to keep up to date.

We are starting a News/email group to solicit features ideas and comments on the topic Wayne Beaton is setting this up. I am away in Australia until June 7 and will have limited email access until then. So, things should get started in early June when I return. My one comment is that we want to create an implementation that doesn’t take constant work to keep functioning. So we will always stay within what Eclipse allows us to do. If there is something we need changed in Eclipse to support our implementation, we will work from that direction.
